STIX Hockey wishes congratulate WHL 1st overall pick Peyton Krebs (’01 Fwd) on officially signing with the Kootenay Ice. Peyton just finished a dominant year with the Rocky Mountain Raiders of the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League, where he amassed 102 points in only 27 games.
In joining the WHL, Peyton will join his older brother Dakota (’99 Def) who just finished his rookie season with the Tri-City Americans.
All the best!
On behalf of everyone at STIX Hockey, we wish to congratulate Cole McKechney (’95, RC) and his family on his recent commitment to attend the University of Jamestown to play for their newly formed men’s hockey program. The Jimmies are entering their first season in ACHA Division 1, the same level of club hockey in which Arizona State (now in NCAA Div 1 hockey) competed for many years. A few years back, Penn State also transitioned from the ACHA to the NCAA.
Located in Jamestown, ND, the small private liberal arts university plays home to numerous varsity athletic programs. Cole will be studying Engineering as an undergraduate.
This is an amazing story of perseverance, as Cole spent his entire over-age year of Junior hockey rehabing a knee injury.
Current STIX student-athlete Nic Herringer (’98 LF) of the Calgary Royals Midget AAA program recently collected multiple prestigious scholarship awards to aid in his post-secondary studies in the future.
Nic received $2,000 as the recipient of the AMHL team scholarship, in addition to the $3,000 he was awarded by the Royals organization for the Stu Peppard Scholarship — which recognizes leadership, sportsmanship, scholastic ability, and commitment to hockey.
Congratulations Nic, and best wishes in the future!
A huge accolade was presented to Cale Makar (’98 RD — UMass-Amherst) of the Brooks Bandits late last week. Cale was named the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Rookie of the Year – beating out some tremendous young Junior A hockey players from across Canada.
Makar and his Brooks team mates, three of which are also STIX alumni, are currently competing for the Royal Bank Cup in Lloydminster, AB.
Congrats Cale, and Go Brooks Go!
Congratulations to Daly Hamilton (’98 RD) of the NW Flames Midget AAA program, who was recently named a 2nd Team All-Star in the Alberta Midget Hockey League (AMHL). Daly has been a long serving member of the STIX family, and will continue on the pursuit of his hockey dreams next season in the BCHL with the West Kelowna Warriors.
STIX Hockey wishes to congratulate Calgary-native Chris Westlund (96 RF) for his recent commitment to the University of Arizona for the Fall 2016 season. Arizona is a Div 1 program that competes in the ACHA (USA Club Hockey).
Chris is currently in his second season with STIX in our Pro Spring Development Program. He just completed his second season with the Selkirk Steelers in the MJHL, and previously suited-up for the Edge School in Calgary.
Chris will be studying Engineering at Arizona.
